Corine van Voorbergen

Corine van Voorbergen (1989) is an intuitive artist who creates through emotion and energy while paying attention to the finest details. Through her minimalist round artworks, she gives visual form to eternal movement. Her current series, 'Through the Brass Eye of the Beholder,' evokes feelings in the viewer through the use of colour, visual depth, light, and texture. The techniques employed by van Voorbergen draw the viewer inward to examine the subtle stories of each small curve and crevice up close, while also encouraging them to step back and observe the piece as a whole and in its surroundings.

Corine constructs each piece using various techniques, including acrylic paint, natural pigment powder, ink, and epoxy. She experiments with different materials such as glass, wood, stone, and various plastics to explore how they merge into a cohesive whole. Each piece is encircled by a hand-polished brass ring. Van Voorbergen prefers to manually brush and polish the rings, symbolising the embrace and attention one gives to a loved one, akin to a gentle caress. Like love, this process comes with its "imperfections." Upon closer inspection, you can see where each stroke begins and ends; every touch imprinted, capturing all the love and care the piece has received. The brass also gradually changes colour over time due to prolonged exposure to oxygen and light. This was a significant motivation for van Voorbergen to choose brass for her works, as nothing in life remains constant with the passage of time; the pieces evolve with their collectors and surroundings.
