Artist
Pépé Grégoire
Inspired by the theme of archaeological finds of Greek and Roman human figures, he fills in the missing limbs: arms and legs, as well as the human profile. Grégoire abstracts until the essence becomes visible, inviting viewers to unleash their own imagination. Pierre Paul “Pépé” Grégoire was born into an artistic family: his grandfather Jan was a painter, and his father Paul was a sculptor and professor at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, where Pépé received his education. His oeuvre primarily consists of fragments of the human body. Grégoire has received various art awards, including the Singer Prize 2020 (a biennial career award), and creates monumental works for public spaces both domestically and internationally. Additionally, he has been commissioned to create bronze portraits of figures such as Princess Beatrix and Joop van den Ende. Jan Rudolph de Lorm, director of the Singer Laren Museum, stated, “Pépé is one of the most original sculptors in the Netherlands. His work is distinctive and boundary-pushing."
