Artist
André Vranken
André Vranken (1961) is a Dutch sculptor with a distinct affinity for stillness, simplicity and the expressive power of form. He studied at the City Academy of Maastricht (1980–1985), specialising in monumental design and painting.
In 1997, Vranken made a decisive shift: he stopped painting and devoted himself entirely to sculpture. His many years working at the bronze foundry of Pie Sijen – where he was closely exposed to the work of artists such as David Vandekop, Henk Visch and Arthur Spronken – left a lasting impact on his visual language.
His sculptures are part of prominent corporate collections (including Delta Lloyd and the Bank of Breda), as well as museum collections in the Netherlands and abroad. Since 2013, his work has also been included in the permanent collection of sculpture gallery Het Depot in Wageningen. Vranken is a member of the Dutch Society of Sculptors and has taught as a guest lecturer at HKU University of the Arts Utrecht.
